Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I do with the fish in my pond over the winter?
A: In Michigan, the ice that forms over the pond prevents gas exchange for the fish. Depending on the size of the pond, you can put an aerator in the pond to leave a hole in the ice, and to oxygenate the water for the fish. In addition, pond heaters may be used.
Q: When do I prune my flowering shrubs?
A: To prevent pruning off next year’s flower buds, my rule of thumb is to prune flowering shrubs within four to six weeks after flowering. Shrubs that are an exception to this rule are those that do not over-winter well (ie. Hydrangea or Butterfly Bush).
Q: I just moved into a new home with NO landscaping. Where do I start?
A: Contact Carol to set up a consultation and to discuss budget. From there, we will work with you to plan your walkways, patios, and retaining walls. The next step is to consider plant choices and water features. Sunrise Landscape Designs can install the entire project and give you the landscaping you’ve always dreamed of!
